Sleep Support Consults

Baby Not Sleeping? What a Sleep Support Consult Actually Involves
If you have spent the last few weeks Googling sleep regressions, wake windows, and cry-it-out at 2am, you already know the internet has no shortage of opinions on baby sleep. What it does not have is a picture of your baby, in your household, with your family's values. That is where a Sleep Support Consult comes in.
A different starting point
A sleep consultation is a gentle, supportive space to explore your child's sleep and find realistic ways to bring more rest to your family. Appointments run for about an hour and are led by a GP trained in Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC) and/or the Holistic Sleep Coaching approach, so the conversation is grounded in your baby's biology rather than a generic schedule.
Rather than rigid routines or separation-based methods, we work on understanding your child's natural sleep biology and building responsive, realistic strategies that actually fit your family's stage of life. If you are not sure whether what you are experiencing is even a problem, our post on infant sleep myths is a good place to start.
What we look at in the bigger picture
- Your child's sleep patterns and what is developmentally typical for their age
- Feeding, and how it may be affecting settling and night waking
- Temperament and sensory sensitivities
- Emotional needs, for your child and for you
- What is realistically sustainable for your household right now
What this is not
This is not a program that asks you to leave your baby to cry, and it is not a rigid routine imposed from outside. The Possums/NDC approach starts from the evidence on infant sleep biology and works forward from there, which often looks quite different from advice built around getting a baby to "sleep through" as early as possible. Our post on the Possums approach to infant sleep goes into more detail on how this differs from conventional sleep training.
Feeling confident again
The aim of a Sleep Support Consult is not a baby who sleeps in a cot from 7pm to 7am on a fixed schedule. It is a family that is resting enough, coping, and feeling connected, in a way that works for them. Some nights will still be harder than others. The goal is a plan you can actually follow, from a GP who understands both the clinical picture and what you are living through.
Sleep Support Consults are available with Dr Marisa Nguyen, Dr Hayley Glasson and Dr Kate McCullough. Fees vary depending on the level of follow-up you require. Current pricing is available when you book, or by contacting the clinic.
When to book
You do not need to have tried everything first. If sleep is affecting how you or your baby are coping day to day, that is enough of a reason to book in.
