Your Reproductive Health Questions, Answered

There are some health questions that are easy to bring up. And then there are the ones people sit on for months , sometimes years , because they are not sure where to start, or whether it is serious enough, or whether they will feel comfortable enough to say it out loud. Reproductive and sexual health questions often fall into that second category. At Embrace Medical on Crown, we want to change that.

Signs it might be time to book

A change in your cycle that you cannot explain. A cervical screening you have been putting off. Contraception that is not working for you anymore. A feeling that something is off but you cannot quite name it.

Any of these is enough of a reason to come in. You do not need to have a diagnosis in mind. You do not need to have the words perfectly ready.

Our GPs, including Dr Helen Jones, who holds a National Certificate in Reproduction and Sexual Health , are experienced in exactly these conversations. They are warm, direct, and good at making people feel comfortable talking about the things that can feel hard to say out loud.

What we see and hear every week

Cycle concerns are one of the most common reasons people come in. Heavy bleeding, irregular periods, pain that gets in the way of daily life , these are worth investigating. PCOS in particular is frequently missed, especially in women who have been told their symptoms are normal when they are not.

Cervical screening is another one. The Cervical Screening Test (CST) is recommended every five years for women aged 25 to 74. It is quick and straightforward. And yet many people put it off for years , often because of a past experience, or anxiety about the appointment. We go at your pace.

Contraception conversations come up constantly. The options are broader than most people realise , the pill, hormonal IUD, Implanon, emergency contraception , and what works changes over time. If something is not right, there is almost always another option worth trying.
