Dr Helen Jones

Helen is a compassionate GP with a strong background in acute care and a special interest in caring for women, children and families. As a mum herself to 3 young daughters, Helen understands the challenges faced by new parents, and this further developed her interest in paediatrics and perinatal medicine.

Before becoming a doctor, Helen worked as a registered nurse in emergency/ICU. She completed her medical degree at the University of Notre Dame in Sydney in 2016 and undertook four years of postgraduate training in the Illawarra, including additional experiences in paediatrics, O&G and sexual health before entering general practice.

Helen has completed a Certificate of Child and Family Health through the University of Sydney (2020), the National Certificate in Reproduction and Sexual Health (2019) and ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential.  She has recently completed a Certificate of Dermoscopy with the Skin Cancer College Australasia and plans to continue further training in skin cancer medicine.

Helen enjoys supporting patients across all stages of life, with a focus on continuity of care and evidenced-based, patient centered care.

Skin Checks

Our skin checks provide a thorough, unhurried assessment of your skin, with a focus on early detection and prevention. Appointments are performed by experienced GPs using dermoscopy to assess moles and skin lesions, and to identify signs of skin cancer or other concerning changes.

We take the time to review your personal and family history, sun exposure, and any specific spots of concern. Where needed, we can arrange monitoring, biopsy, or treatment, and coordinate follow-up care.

Antenatal Shared Care

Women planning to give birth at The Wollongong Hospital (public) may choose the Shared Care model for their antenatal care.

With shared care, the majority of your pregnancy appointments are with your GP, with a smaller number of visits at the hospital antenatal clinic. This model supports continuity of care, allowing you to be cared for by a GP who understands your medical history, values, and family context — and who can continue to support you and your family well beyond the six-week post-partum period.

As part of our commitment to holistic perinatal care, we also offer our shared care patients a discounted antenatal breastfeeding appointment, should they wish to access this additional support.
